III. JOHN 1, VERSES 9 - 11
9 I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to
have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not. 10
Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he
doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not
content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the
brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth
them out of the church. 11 Beloved, follow not that which
is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of
God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.
This church does not tell the truth about the disciples, but
tells evil lies about them, and does not let anyone who
knows the truth about the disciples enter. Instead the
church casts them out. This church perverted the Gospel
into evil lies.
AWAKE! MAGAZINE SEPTEMBER 8 1957
RECENTLY a young man purchased a King James Version
Bible thinking it was without error. One day when glancing
through a back issue of Look magazine he came across
an article entitled " The Truth About the Bible," which said
that " as early as 1720, an English authority estimated
that there were at least 20,000 errors in the two editions
of the New Testament commonly read by Protestants and
Catholics. Modern students say there are probably 50,000
errors." The young man was shocked. His faith in the Bible's
authenticity was shaken. "How can the Bible be reliable
when it contains thousands of serious discrepancies and
inaccuracies? " he asks...etc.
TIME MAGAZINE APRIL 8 1996. IN (THE GOSPEL
TRUTH?)
...however, a book called The Acts of Jesus is in the editing
process... that close historical analysis of the Gospels
exposes most of them as inauthentic... " We can't be sure of
anything that Jesus actually said"...There are, after all, four
Gospels, whose actual writing, most scholars have come to
acknowledge, was done not by the Messengers but by their
anonymous followers (or their followers followers)...The
earliest appeared to have been written some 40 years after
his Crucifixion. Which was most accurate?... messengers of
the new scientific method raised additional questions with
increasing urgency: Might faith have caused the writes of
all four Gospels to embellish on actual fact? Did the politics
of the early church cause them to edit or add to Jesus
story? Which parts of the New Testament were likely to
be straight reportage rather than pious mythmaking? ...
Depressingly few, the so-called higher critics found. There
are only two or three references to Jesus in six pagan or
Jewish sources, providing precious little corroborating
data. Even if the standard for authenticity were agreement
between the Gospels there is less of that than one might
imagine...So unreliable were the Gospel accounts that
"we can now know almost nothing concerning the life and
personality of Jesus...According to The Five Gospels, only
18% of the words ascribed to Jesus in the Gospels may
have actually been spoken by him... The Seminar found
all the Nativity descriptions to be inauthentic except for
the name of Jesus mother (Mary)... As regards the Passion
and Easter: all descriptions of Jesus trail are deemed
inauthentic, along with his Palm Sunday statement that
he is the Messiah...that they said the resurrection of Jesus
Christ was not essential to the faith; and that, in fact, the
Resurrection may not have occurred at all.
Could that be the book God left to the entire world
as our source of knowledge of God and faith? A
perverted inauthentic book which cannot be trusted
and which we cannot be sure of anything contained
therein?
